The principal of the Vishwa Bharti Government Higher Secondary School in Srinagar has apologised after receiving a threat from a terror group over restrictions on girls wearing an abaya to classes, according to a report by NDTV.
The principal had asked girls not to wear an abaya, a long robe worn by Muslim women, inside the school as it was not part of the uniform. She had said that there is no objection to girls wearing a hijab. A group of students refused to accept the directions and staged a protest.
The principal has now issued a statement saying she unconditionally apologises if the students' or parents' sentiments have been hurt. She added that students can wear an abaya inside classrooms.
