Days after reports suggested that Mukul Rohatgi would once again be the Indian government's top lawyer, the veteran advocate is reported to have turned down the offer to be the Attorney General of India.
Rohatgi's latest stint as the AG was supposed to begin on 1 October 2022. But he turned down the government's offer just days prior, news reports quoting sources said on 25 September 2022.
Rohatgi's earlier tenure as AG ended in June 2017. He was succeeded by KK Venugopal, whose term ends on 30 September 2022. Venugopal's first term was slated to end in 2020, but he continued for two more years at the government's insistence.
