An idol of Saraswati was sculptured in a ‘very wrong and vulgar way’ at a Tripura college on Basant Panchami, as per student union ABVP. The idol was crafted by college students and allegedly displayed without a traditional saree.

The incident triggered an ABVP protest in the college but no formal complaints have been filed so far. NDTV reported that the Saraswati idol has been covered with plastic sheets and removed from the area.

ABVP Tripura leader Dibakar Acharjee voiced his concerns and stated the idol displayed at Tripura Government College of Art and Craft has hurt religious sentiments. “We all got news that the idol of Goddess Saraswati was sculptured in a very wrong and vulgar way,” he said.

“We instantly reached the location and started our protest. We asked the college authorities to stop the worship there and forced the students to wrap a sari on the idol. We strongly protest against this type of initiative in any educational institute,” Acharjee said, as per ANI.
