The meeting took place a day after India abstained from a vote on a draft resolution in the United Nations Security Council which condemned Russia's actions.

Subsequently, PM Modi had a phone conversation with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy who had briefed him about the situation, and also sought India's support at the UNSC.

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla also briefed the media about the ongoing evacuation effort labelled Operation Ganga.
