Just days before American President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit India for the G20 summit, the US Congress has cleared the landmark fighter jet engine deal.
A Hindustan Times report said that the Biden government informed the Congress on July 28, and since there were no objections from any lawmakers for a month, it is assumed that assent has been granted.
The Biden administration can proceed with the next steps in the deal now, as per a source quoted in the report.
During PM Modi's trip to the US in June, GE Aerospace and HAL had signed a deal to produce F-414 jet engines in India with 80% transfer of technology.
