American authorities on 28 February announced a fresh move to reduce waiting time for Indians seeking a US visa.

Washington has decided to deploy temporary visa officers at the Mumbai consulate to help reduce the delay in processing of applications.

American consular officers from around the world have been pulled out of their regular duties and assigned to visa work in Mumbai.

There is currently a 694-day wait time in Mumbai, and 614-day delay in Delhi for appointments for non-immigrant visa applicants, as per reports.
