Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to lay the foundation stone for what is being described as eastern Uttar Pradesh's largest night shelter on Friday, April 18.

The shelter, which will be located within the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) campus in Gorakhpur, is expected to provide accommodation for up to 500 people, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office.

The project will be built at a cost of ₹44 crore, with funding support from the Power Grid Corporation of India under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. “CM Yogi will officially kick off the project by performing the ground-breaking ceremony,” the official statement noted.

The facility is aimed at easing the burden for patients and their family members who often travel long distances to access healthcare at AIIMS Gorakhpur.

The announcement follows a series of development activities in the region led by the Chief Minister. Recently, Yogi Adityanath inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several infrastructure projects worth ₹91 crore at the Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology in Gorakhpur district.

Additionally, CM Yogi launched a major grain-based distillery plant at the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA), a project valued at ₹1,200 crore. Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said, “This is not just a Distillery but an ethanol plant.”

“In the first phase, it will produce 350,000 litres of ethanol daily, with plans to increase production to 500,000 litres later on,” he added.

Highlighting the shift in industrial momentum in the region, the Chief Minister credited the surge in investment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ethanol policy. “Ethanol production has increased from 42 lakh litres to 177 crore litres since Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the production of ethanol from surplus sugarcane,” he stated.

He also emphasized Gorakhpur’s rapid industrial growth under the current administration. “Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) has attracted over ₹15,000 crore in investments, reversing a previous lack of interest in industrial setup,” CM Yogi remarked.

The spate of initiatives signals the state government’s push to not only upgrade healthcare-related infrastructure but also promote economic development and industrial expansion in the region.
