In an attempt to break the taboo attached with divorce in India, a father from Uttra Pradesh’s Kanpur brought his divorced daughter back home from her in-laws' house with pomp and show.

Anil Kumar, a retired worker at BSNL, got his 36-year-old daughter, Urvi, married to Ashish Ranjan in 2016.

The couple lived in Delhi and have a five-year-old daughter. However, Urvi’s in-laws allegedly harassed her for dowry due to which she got a divorce on February 28.

A journalist shared the video of Urvi reaching her home amid celebrations. “A courageous father like this too. The daughter was tortured by her in-laws. Despite many efforts, the torture did not stop. After this, the father brought back the daughter with the same pomp and show as he had sent her off with. He hung the dupatta that the daughter had worn during the wedding on the door,” the post read.
