The operation to rescue 40 trapped workers from the collapsed Uttarkashi tunnel has entered the third day.

Trucks laden with 900 mm diameter pipes have been brought in. The idea is to drill horizontally and insert the wide pipes into the debris to create a passage for the workers to come out.

Rescuers said that the teams still have to clear about 35 metres of debris more. Earlier, the rescue personnel managed to supply food, water and oxygen to the workers.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on November 13 conducted an on-site inspection of the rescue operations.
