The 41 workers trapped in the Uttarakhand tunnel will be given a “special diet” of moong khichdi to help them survive the extreme conditions. India Today reported the food will be packed in plastic bottles and a 6-inch alternate pipe.
In a bid to maintain communication with the trapped workers, officials will send a phone and a charger along with the food.
Uttarakhand’s government has announced that it will cover the food, accommodation and travel expenses of the victims’ families.
Psychiatrists have also been roped in to maintain the morale of the trapped workers, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said.
Rescue operations are being carried out on a war footing since portions of the tunnel collapsed following a landslide early on November 12, leaving 41 workers trapped behind a huge mound of debris.
