The man you see lying down on a damaged mattress as others watch is Dr Raj Bahadur, the vice-chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences in Punjab’s Faridkot district.

Media reports say the top doctor was forced by Punjab’s Health Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra to lie down on a damaged mattress in front of staff and patients at a hospital during an inspection.

The incident hasn’t gone down well with the Indian Medical Association’s Punjab unit and the Opposition who say the doctor who has over 45 years of experience was humiliated by the Aam Admi Party Minister.

The Indian Express reported that even though Dr Bahadur mentioned that hospital management was the prerogative of the medical superintendent, the minister made him lie on the mattress, which was damaged and even had fungal growth.

The report quoting sources said the 71-year-old doctor has submitted his resignation to the chief minister’s office late on Friday night.
