In the new law, severe penalties are imposed on drivers who flee accident scenes. After recieving the assurance by the center on Jnauary 3, truckers were asked by the All-India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) to call off the strike. As per the new hit-and-run law, there is up to 10 years in jail and/or a fine for drivers involved in fatal accidents who fail to report the incident to the authorities.
