With the Presidential elections due next month, rumours are flaring up over one name or the other. Amid the build-up to the elections, one name which is emerging from the opposition camp is that of NCP chief Sharad Pawar.
As per latest reports, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi pushed Pawar's name as united Opposition's nominee for the post.
A report in the New Indian Express notes that Pawar was informed about Sonia's suggestion by senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, who recently met him.
Pawar seems to be an unopposed candidate among the opposition with leaders of several parties including TMC, Shiv Sena and AAP urging the NCP chief to file nomination.
Pawar, however, is yet to take his call.
BJP president J P Nadda and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh have been given the job to hold talks with opposition parties including TMC and Congress on the polls.

Notably, Pawar shares a good relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had once referred to the Maratha leader as his political guru.
