A woman, 56, died of cardiac arrest on March 10 in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur after witnessing the brutal murder of her 59-year-old husband.
Police said the incident happened at an apartment in LIC Colony, opposite the JNTU campus in Anantapur, where the deceased, identified as Murthy Rao Gokhale, was murdered by his nephew Adithya, according to a Times of India report.
Gokhale was working as a guest faculty at SK University. He also served as the principal of Ananta Lakshmi Engineering College.
Adithya, who completed a master's degree in engineering, paid an amount of money to Gokhale to secure placement at a reputed company. When he failed to do so, Adithya hatched a plan to kill him.
After indulging with him in a heated argument, Adithya slit Gokhale’s throat and gave him several injury cuts all over his body. Gokhale died on the spot.
The wife of the deceased, Shobha, tried to intervene but was unable to save her husband. She also suffered a few injuries and later died of cardiac arrest.
Police have arrested Adithya and are currently questioning him.
The bodies of the couple were sent for postmortem to the Government General Hospital in Anantapur.
