Five people including a 23-year-old woman were arrested by the Gomti Nagar police two days after a video went viral. In the video, the accused were seen thrashing two women with lathi and belts in Lucknow's Lohia crossing.
Deepak Pandey, Gomti Nagar, SHO, said, "All were from Lucknow and were arrested based on an FIR registered earlier in the case. The perpetrators were nabbed with the help of CCTV footage."
The victims told the police they were haveing a conversation at the roadside when the men stopped. Accusing the women of rude comments against them, the men started thrashing the women.
The arrested people have been identified as Ayaan Khan, 22, Sahil Kumar, 19, Vishal Valmiki, 19, Ravi Singh, 19 and Mini Bharti, 23.
The viral video shows the two girls engaging in an argument and suddenly two boys appear with lathi and belt. They started attacking the girls. This incident took place on Saturday, March 2, at around 2 am.
The group also brutally thrashed a man who came to the help of the two girls and left him bleeding on the road. The man was later admitted to a local hospital.
