India now No.2 on global Covid list, tally tops 42 lakh

India on Monday surpassed Brazil as the country with second highest Covid-19 cases with over 42.04 lakh reported infections. The grim milestone came as the country recorded another one-day spike of over 90,000 coronavirus cases, data released by health ministry on Monday morning showed. A spike of 90,802 cases took India's Covid tally past 42 lakh to occupy the second spot on the list of countries worst hit by Covid just below the US. Over 1,000 deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours which push the fatality count past 71,000. The number of active cases is now inching closer to 9 lakhs, while over 32 lakh people have recovered from the deadly contagion.
