India records 53,480 new Covid cases, 351 fatalities in 24 hours

India's Covid-19 tally climbed to 1,21,49,335 with 53,480 more people testing positive in 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry showed on Wednesday morning. 354 more deaths pushed the toll to 1,62,468.

Meanwhile, the active cases have increased to 5,52,566 comprising 4.55 per cent of the total infections, while the recovery rate has further dropped to 94.11 per cent.

Amid the steady increase in cases, the Centre said the coronavirus situation is "turning from bad to worse" and is a huge cause of worry, especially for some states.
