India's daily Covid-19 tally rises to 38,353; active cases lowest in 140 days

India on Wednesday logged 38,353 fresh Covid-19 cases, recording a rise from Tuesday's 28,204 infections in 24 hours. The daily death toll also showed a jump, with 497 people succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours.

With the new cases, the cumulative Covid tally has reached 32,036,511. The number of active cases dipped to 3.8 lakh, the lowest in 140 days. India's recovery rate went up to 97.45%.

The Union Health Ministry said 44 districts in India are reporting more than 10% weekly positivity rate and Kerala is the only state which has more than 1 lakh active Covid-19 cases.

The govt also noted that a total of 37 districts from nine states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Meghalaya and Mizoram are a matter of concern as they are showing rising trend in daily coronavirus cases over last two weeks.
