India's deadliest day: Nearly 3 lakh cases, over 2,000 deaths

India reported its deadliest day since the start of the Covid pandemic with nearly 3 lakh new cases and over 2,000 deaths due the virus. According to the data released by the health ministry on Wednesday morning, the country logged over 2.95 lakh cases and 2,023 deaths in the last 24 hours.

This is the first time that the deaths due to Covid have crossed the 2,000-mark in India.The death toll has now crossed 1.82 lakh while the active cases have gone up to over 21.5 lakh. This is also the seventh straight day of the country seeing over 2 lakh new cases.

India's tally of more than 1.56 crore Covid cases is the second-highest globally just behind the United States.
