An Indian fisherman was killed and another wounded in the high seas off the Gujarat coast after personnel of Pakistan’s Maritime Security Agency allegedly opened fire at an Indian fishing boat in the Arabian Sea.

The deceased fisherman has been identified as 32-year-old Shridhar Chamre from Vadrai village in Palghar district of Maharashtra. Chamre’s family said he worked on a fishing boat at Okha, the nearest big port from Palghar.

The fishing boat, Jal Pari, with seven crew members had set sail from Okha port in Gujarat on October 26. The injured fisherman is recuperating at a hospital in Okha.

Police said the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency chased the boat and fired indiscriminately.
