Jyotiraditya Scindia has literally flown into his father's shoes as the new Civil Avaition Minister. His father Madhavrao Scindia held the portfolio from 1991 to 93 in the Narasimha Rao govt. He was later killed in an air crash in 2001.
Jyotiraditya Scindia, who quit the Congress to join the BJP last year, takes over as Civil Aviation Minister at a time when the airlines, travel sector and the hospitality industry are facing severe pressure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
There is a silver lining for Scindia as the second Covid wave has ebbed and travelling is again seeing an uptick.
One of the main challenges of the Maharaja of Gwalior will be the sale of the Maharaja of air, the national carrier Air India, which has been stuck for years.
