Shreyas Iyer impressed on his Test debut as India ended Day 1 of the Kanpur Test at 258/4 vs New Zealand.
Ajinkya Rahane's decision to bat first was the right call but Mayank Agarwal failed to capitalise and was dismissed for 13. Shubman Gill once again impressed with 52 but failed to carry on. Rahane and Pujara too went back cheaply as India suddenly found themselves wanting at 145/4. But Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja helped India avoid a middle-order collapse with an unbeaten 113-run stand. While Iyer scored 75 not out, Jadeja remained unbeaten on 50 as they both saw off the day.
With the new ball just 4 overs old, New Zealand would hope to break this partnership early on Day 2, else it will be very tough to catch up with the Hosts.
