Shreyas Iyer's call-up to Test cricket may have come as a surprise for some but the Mumbai lad didn't let the faith shown in him by the Indian team management down. Iyer slammed a hundred on his Test debut vs New Zealand in Kanpur and became the 16th Indian to achieve that feat.
While most batters found it tough to get going on a slow Green Park wicket, Iyer held India's innings together and proved his mettle. Interestingly, the last 3 Indians to join the 'hundred on debut Test' club have all been from Mumbai. Prithvi Shaw and Rohit Sharma were the 2 to do that before Shreyas.
While the team would have expected Iyer to carry on but the 26-year-old fell playing a loose shot on 105.
