Kerala reported its first case of the Zika virus after a 24-year-old pregnant woman tested positive for the mosquito transmitted disease in Thiruvananthapuram.

The woman had been admitted to the hospital on June 28 with fever, headache and red marks on her body and delivered her baby on July 7.

The state's health minister Veena George said in addition to the one confirmed case, there are 13 suspected cases of virus in the city. All 13 are healthcare workers, she added.

Zika is a viral infection spread by the Aedes mosquitoes and its symptoms are similar to Dengue.
