KMSS stage sit-in protest against CAA 2019 near Nagaon DC office

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) stage sit-in protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 near Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Office on Tuesday. The protesters also demanded immediate release of KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi and Bir Lachit Sena leader Sringkhol Chaliha. Notably, several organizations including the Artistes Society of Assam, Civil Society groups are being staging protest against the Citizenship law in Assam since past one month. Recently, on Sunday, a massive protest rally was launched by Artistes Society of Assam supported by AASU in Guwahati. The protest was led by singing sensation Zubeen Garg. It may be mentioned that since the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 was passed by the Parliament of India on 11 December 2019. It amended the Citizenship Act of 1955 by providing a path to Indian citizenship for Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian religious minorities that had fled persecution from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan before December 2014.
