The resumption of Cricket's greatest rivalry may be in for a spoiler as the La Nina threat looms over The Ashes.

England's preparations for the 1st Test at the Gabba were dampened after day two of their intra-squad match was abandoned in Brisbane. The visitors were unable to play due to a water-logged pitch. According to the met department, the miserable weather which is due to disturbance in the oceanic and atmospheric conditions is expected to hamper most of England’s Ashes tour. Rainfall over eastern Australia can be around 20 per cent higher than usual from December to March when La Nina is in play.

It may be concerning news for the broadcasters but England's James Anderson would definitely be licking his lips. There's probably no other bowler who exploits moisture in the air more than Jimmy. Interestingly, La Nina struck Australia during England's 2010 Ashes tour as well and Anderson rattled the Kangaroos in the 1st innings of the Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney Tests respectively. The 3 Lions won all those 3 matches and retained the urn.

The Ashes start with the Brisbane Test from December 8 and ends with the Perth Test from January 14.
