There seems to be no end to the India-China border tensions. Amid the standoff in eastern Ladakh along the LAC, China on Tuesday sharply reacted to the opening of 44 new bridges near the borders by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Opposing all infrastructure development in the region, China reiterated that it "does not recognize the Ladakh Union Territory, which it said was "illegally set up by India". Zhao Lijian, the spokesman for China's Foreign Ministry, called the border infrastructure development "the root cause for the tension between the two sides". India and China has been locked in a standoff for five months and despite several rounds of talks there has been no easing of tensions.
