Laurel Hubbard: first transgender athlete to compete at Olympics

New Zealand's Laurel Hubbard will become the first transgender athlete to compete at an Olympics after she was selected to be part of the Kiwi weightlifting team for the Tokyo Games. The 43-year-old was competing in the men's category till 2013 before transitioning. She became eligible to compete in the women's events in 2015 when the International Olympic Committee changed its guidelines to include transgender athletes in the competition. The Kiwi athlete won a silver at the 2017 World Championship and now has a world ranking of 17.
