'Ae Watan Mere Watan' trailer launched: Know about Usha Mehta whom Sara Ali Khan is playing in the film

'Ae Watan Mere Watan' trailer is out and the movie is slated to premiere on Prime Video on March 21. Directed by Kannan Iyer, the film stars Sara Ali Khan as Usha Mehta. 

Who was Usha Mehta whom Sara Ali Khan is playing in the film Ae Watan Mere Watan?

Sara Ali Khan is playing Usha Mehta in the film Ae Watan Mere Watan. Usha used to run an underground radio station during the Quit India movement in 1942. Congress Radio was an illegal radio station that operated secretly to broadcast messages of independence and anti-British propaganda. Usha Mehta, who was just 22 then risked her life along with her colleagues, to run this illegal radio station, which played a significant role in mobilizing public opinion against British rule.  

Usha Mehta was a prominent Indian freedom fighter, best known for her involvement in the Indian independence movement against British colonial rule. She was born on March 25, 1920, in Saras, Gujarat, India, into a family deeply involved in the nationalist movement.

Mehta's journey into activism began at a young age. She actively participated in various activities organized by the Indian National Congress during the freedom struggle. However, her most notable contribution came during the Quit India Movement of 1942.

During the Quit India Movement, Usha Mehta played a crucial role in underground resistance against the British Raj. She worked closely with other prominent figures like Jayaprakash Narayan and Ram Manohar Lohia to establish the "Congress Radio," also known as the "Secret Congress Radio."

Supported by Dharmatic Entertainment production, the film 'Ae Watan Mere Watan' is a historic thriller-drama. It is produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra.

The film has been written and directed by Kannan Iyer and Darab Farooqui. Besides Sara Ali Khan, the film also stars Sachin Khedekar, Abhay Verma, Sparsh Shrivastav, Alexx O' Nell and Anand Tiwari in pivotal roles. It also features actor Emraan Hashmi in a special appearance.
