To prevent feet from peeling and drying, maintaining foot hygiene and regular moisturising is important. Experts suggest the following tips to get rid of cracked heels.

  • Opt for socks made of at least 70% cotton and use fresh pair of socks daily
  • After washing your feet, use a separate hand towel and make sure the areas between the toes are completely dry
  • On sock-less days, wipe sandals and footwear with a Dettol wipe to eliminate bacteria
  • Regularly air out footwear by leaving them outside, especially on hot and dry days
  • Let your feet soak in the sun occasionally
  • If your feet are peeling and itchy, avoid walking barefoot
  • If you have extremely dry skin on your feet, you must consult a podiatrist

DIY foot scrub for cracked heels

Take two tablespoons of salt, a little bit of olive oil and a few drops of essential oil such as lavender or tea tree. Now, apply the mixture to your feet and tie two plastic bags around your ankles. This will hydrate your feet and remove any dead skin cells.
