Holi 2022: Make your Holi healthier with these easy recipes

The festival of colors falls in the spring season, in this period of transition from winter to summer it is essential for us to keep our bodies cool with healthy foods.

Here are some delicious and healthy food recipes you should definitely try this festive season.

Thandai

  •  4 cups milk
  • ½ cup coconut sugar
  • ½ cup almond
  • ½ cup cashew nuts
  • ½ cup pistachio
  • ½ cup melon seeds
  • 10 whole black peppercorns
  • 1 ½ tablespoon fennel seeds
  • 1 ½ cup poppy seeds
  • 8 cardamom
  • 4-5 dry rose petals
  • ½ tablespoon saffron
  • 1 tablespoon warm milk
  • For garnish: Pista and saffron

Preparation

  • Add 4 cups of fresh milk to a pan heat it and add coconut sugar. Boil it on medium flame for 8-10mins, transfer it to a bowl and cool it off
  • Soak all the nuts and seeds for an hour and blend them into a paste
  • Take 50ml warm milk and add saffron strands
  • Mix the paste of nuts and seed to the cold milk and add the saffron mix

Chilled Avocado Buttermilk soup

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • sea salt
  • ⅓ of a shallot, diced
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • juice of half a lime
  • 1 tsp pumpkin seeds
  • ½ cup - ⅔ cup water
  • black pepper

Preparation

  • Cut the avocado in half and scoop out the flesh
  • In a blender mix together the avocado, buttermilk, salt, pepper, lime juice, pumpkin seeds and ½ cup water
  • Blend until completely smooth and then check for consistency
  • Pour the soup into a bowl. Cover it with plastic wrap and cool off in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving
  • Garnish the soup with avocado chunks, pumpkin seeds, salt and pepper
  • Serve immediately while it is still cold

Cool summer salad

  • 1-2 cucumber peeled
  • 1 stock celery
  • 1 medium-sized carrot
  • 1 handful spinach
  • 2 handful of leafy lettuce
  • 1 handful of dill
  • 2 tablespoons of pumpkin seeds
  • 5-7 almonds

Preparations

  • Soak all nuts and seeds overnight
  • Chop the vegetables cucumber, celery, dill and lettuce
  • Grate the carrot
  • Mix all of the vegetables with nuts and seeds
  • Serve with the dressing of your choice; lime and honey, apple cider vinegar, flaxseed oil or Tahini
