Not bananas or protein shakes, according to a study published in Frontiers in Nutrition, almonds are the best post-workout food.

For the study, researchers asked participants (both men and women) to consume 57g of almonds daily for one month. After the randomised trial it was noted that almonds have a positive impact on metabolic health and energy balance.

Participants also reported feeling less fatigued, better leg-back strength and decreased muscle damage after exercise.

Researchers concluded that daily consumption of almonds improves metabolism, lowers inflammation and enables the body to recover faster post-workout.
