Amidst the ongoing increase in divorce rates across the United States, a recent study by Forbes Advisor has shed light on primary factors behind couples' decisions to part ways.
The study highlighted the most common factors for divorcing are compatibility, family support and infidelity.

The major key takeaways from the Forbes study are-

  • A majority of divorces are instigated by a single party, with merely 27 per cent of participants indicating that the choice to terminate the marriage was a mutual one.
  • Most divorces happen between 3rd and 7th year of marriage and just 4 per cent of couple divorce after 10 years.
  • Lack of compatibility is the top reason for new couples to divorce, with 59 per cent of couples who divorced in their first year citing this cause.

A total of 689,308 divorces occurred in 2021 and approximately half of all the first marriages end in divorce with subsequent marriages failing at higher rates.
