Breastfeeding week 2024: Dr. Ashima Gulia shares 3 important tips every lactating mother should practice

Breastfeeding week is celebrated every year from the 1st of August to the 7th. It is celebrated annually and this year it will focus on breastfeeding and employment/work. It will showcase the impact of paid leave, workplace support and emerging parenting norms on breastfeeding through the lens of parents themselves. 

Breastfeeding is a natural process, but alot of mothers have to face difficulty after giving birth to feed their babies. Breast milk is sometimes not produced naturally in some new mothers and they need help and assistance from experts. New mothers are advised to take suggestions and see doctors if they face such problems.

Speaking with Editorji, Dr. Ashima Gulia, Senior consultant obstetrics and gynaecologist at Cloudnine Hospital, told, that every mother should practice breast feeding and prepare themselves during the pregnancy period even before the breastfeeding journey begins. 

Here are 3 important tips shared by Dr. Ashima Gulia that will help new moms to have a comfortable breastfeeding experience. 

1. According to her the first one hour right after the delivery is absolutely crucial. It is also called the golden hour. 

2. Dr. Gulia suggests taking help of a lactating consultant in case the mother faces difficulty during the process of breast feeding. 

3. The doctor advises drinking a glass of water after every feed and creating a nursing section near the mother.
