Taking care of our ears is crucial for maintaining good hearing and overall ear health. Speaking with Editorji, Dr Vivek Kumar Pathak, renowned senior ENT consultant points out 3 major things we must avoid to prevent our ears from any infection or damage.

Dr Vivek Kumar Pathak said that we must not insert objects into our ears, including fingers, cotton swabs, or other tools, as this can damage the ear canal or eardrum. He also added that your ears should always be dry and clean, especially after swimming or showering.

The doctor also said that we must not use random ear drops. Ear drops only prescribed by a doctor or an expert should be used. Thirdly, Dr Pathak reiterated the fact use of headphones for prolonged hours are causing alot of health issues.

So, he advised to not use earphones, headphone or ear pods for listening to loud music and for long hours. He recommended if someone uses it, the volume has to be low.

Dr Vivek Kumar Pathak shares 2 points one must remember while swimming

During summers people enjoy simming and other water sports. The doctor advised that if someone goes for swimming it's important to make sure that water does not enter the ears. According to him one must use earplugs while swimming or any other water activity.

Dr Pathak also said that one must assure that the swimming pool is clean and well disinfected.

Healthy lifestyle one must adapt to take care of ears

1. Proper hydration helps maintain good blood flow to the ears.

2. Eat a diet rich in vitamins and minerals that support ear health, including vitamins A, C, E, and magnesium.

3. Regular physical activity improves blood circulation, including to the ears.

4. Have your hearing tested regularly, especially if you are exposed to loud noises frequently or notice hearing loss.

5. Avoid smoking and exposure to passive smoke, which can contribute to ear infections.
