Every year International Yoga Day is observed on June 21. The theme of this year's Yoga Day is 'Yoga for Self and Society'. Recently, yoga enthusiast and actor Malaika Arora shared a video of her performing the 'cat cow pose' or 'Marjaryasana' that helps in combating lower back pain.
The cat cow pose enhances flexibility in the spine, stretches the back and neck, and helps to relieve tension in these areas. Practising yoga every day yields numerous physical, mental, and emotional benefits, contributing to overall well-being. However, if you are a beginner you must perform Yoga with a professional practitioner.
Improves Spinal Flexibility and Strength: The alternating arching and rounding movements of the spine increase flexibility and strengthen the muscles that support the spine, promoting better posture and reducing the risk of back injuries.
Relieves Back and Neck Pain: The gentle stretching of the spine and neck can help alleviate tension and discomfort in these areas, making it an excellent practice for those suffering from chronic back or neck pain.
Enhances Circulation: The rhythmic movement stimulates blood flow throughout the body, helping to oxygenate muscles and tissues, which can aid in the healing process and reduce muscle stiffness.
Promotes Better Breathing: Synchronizing breath with movement in the Cat-Cow pose encourages deep, mindful breathing, which can improve lung capacity and promote relaxation.
Reduces Stress and Calms the Mind: The focused, deliberate movements paired with controlled breathing help activate the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress and promoting a sense of calm and well-being.
Aids Digestion: The gentle massage of the abdominal organs during the pose can help stimulate digestive processes, making it beneficial for those with digestive issues.
