Parents often believe playing video games make children dull and affect their intelligence. However, according to a study published in the Journal of Media Psychology, playing video games does not affect children's cognitive skills.
Children who participated in the research played video games for 2.5 hours and some played for 4.5 hours daily. For research, the performance of the cognitive ability test of children playing video games was checked and it was revealed that the time of playing video games and the type of video games had no direct effect on cognitive performance.
Besides this, the study also revealed that the games children play to increase healthy cognitive skills do not help much in increasing their skills.
