New research has found that the negative impact of most cardiovascular diseases on thinking and memory skills is stronger for women than men. The study was published in the Neurology Journal.

The study included 1857 individuals, without dementia, aged between 50 and 69 years. Participants were evaluated for a period of 13 years. The evaluation included tests of memory, language, executive function and spatial skills.
As per the findings, certain cardiovascular conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease and stroke have stronger associations with cognitive decline in women compared to men.
