With the onset of spring, India's most colourful festival is knocking at the doors. It is celebrated all across the nation in many different ways. Here are some of the most popular ones:
Lathmar Holi
In the Barsana region of Uttar Pradesh, Lathmar Holi is popular. As the name suggests, women chase men with lathis! Fret not, men come prepared for the crazy feat too!
Basanta Utsab
In West Bengal’s Shantiniketan, Holi is celebrated on the full moon day, that’s a day before Holi, as ‘Basanta Utsab'. It is accompanied by cultural performances by students of the Vishwa Bharati University and tourists from all across the country join the celebrations.
Phoolon ki holi
The sky is transformed into a stunning mirage of flowers in Braj near Mathura, where 'phoolon ki holi' is played. People shower rose, lotus and marigold flower petals on each other.
Laddoo Holi
Holi comes with a huge dose of sweetness in several parts of North India where laddoo Holi is played. It involves smearing colours on one another and tossing laddoos around. These sweets are then pocketed as they're considered to be blessings from the lord.
