As the calendar turns towards August 15th, India's national flag 'The Tiranga' flutters with pride and patriotism. This year's Independence Day celebration, however, seems to have sparked a curious debate – is it the 76th or the 77th year of India's freedom from British colonial rule?
India's fight for independence culminated on August 15, 1947, with the nation finally breaking free from centuries of British colonial dominance. The first Independence Day celebration took place on that very day.
Since then, the country has celebrated each passing year with fervour, commemorating its hard-fought struggle and remarkable achievements.
Well, for those who are confused about whether it is the 76th or 77th Independence Day, it is worth noting that as per the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the government agency responsible for disseminating official information, India celebrated its 76th Independence Day on August 15, 2022.
Following the framework employed by the government, this year's commemoration would logically be considered India's 77th Independence Day.
The calculation is done as such that August 15, 1947, is counted as the first Independence Day.
