Indian couple with Down syndrome gets married in Tamil-Maharashtrian-style; netizens shower love

In a moment of celebration for the Down syndrome families in India, an Indian couple with Down syndrome got married on July 5, 2023. Their wedding took place in two different styles - Tamilian and Maharashtrian. 

The wedding ceremony of Vignesh Krishnaswamy and Ananya Sawant was held in Pune. Vignesh, a 27-year-old individual, is employed in the hospitality industry in Dubai. On the other hand, Ananya, who is 22 years old, works as a teacher. In order to live with her new spouse, she intends to relocate to Dubai.

The union between Vignesh and Ananya was made by Janani Viswanathan, Vignesh's sister, who is pursuing her studies in the United Kingdom. Alongside her, Ashni Sawant, the sister of the bride, who attends a private university in Chennai, played a role in bringing the couple together.

The wedding festivities spanned three days and were attended by friends and extended family members. The celebrations encompassed various traditional customs and included a mehndi ceremony, sangeet, lively music, captivating dance performances, and abundant feasting.

The wedding photos of the couple have gone viral and people are showering love and blessings for them online.

What is Down syndrome?

Down syndrome, also known as trisomy 21, is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of an extra copy of chromosome 21. Typically, individuals have 46 chromosomes (23 pairs), but in the case of Down syndrome, there is an additional copy of chromosome 21, resulting in a total of 47 chromosomes.

The extra genetic material affects the development of the body and brain, leading to various physical and cognitive differences.
