Indian fashion mogul Mona Patel grabbed attention at Met Gala 2024 with her ‘mechanical butterflies’ dress styled by Law Roach. Her debut at the event, wearing a breathtaking gown by Iris Van Herpen, perfectly aligned with the theme ‘The Garden of Time.’ The dress, with butterfly sleeves and intricate mechanics, was a true work of art, captivating everyone with its charm and creativity.
Originally from Vadodara, Gujarat, Patel moved to the US as a young entrepreneur. Her inspiring journey began at Rutgers University, leading her to establish a million-dollar empire with multiple businesses. According to Vogue, her nonprofit, Couture For Cause, is at the heart of what she does, mixing fashion with helping others for important reasons.
‘I wanted my debut look to be something that celebrates my heritage and also combines my love couture, and when I heard of the theme, Iris Van Herpen seemed like the obvious choice,’ Patel had said, opening up about her Met Gala look, in an interview with Vogue India, in March.
The Dutch designer's haute couture style is extraordinary, drawing inspiration from nature in unique and extreme ways. They collaborate with Indian embroidery houses to create special outfits, such as Patel's stunning nude gown with a butterfly-shaped corset and trailing edge. Keeping with the "Garden of Time" theme, the form-fitting gown features butterflies around her arms, moving slowly like gloves, adding an unexpected and enchanting detail.
The Met Gala, hosted by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, gathered the crème de la crème of the global entertainment industry. A-listers like Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Gigi Hadid, Mindy Kaling, and Sarah Jessica Parker wowed on the red carpet with their stunning appearances and impressive attire. Indian stars Alia Bhatt, Isha Ambani, and billionaire Sudha Reddy also captivated audiences with their presence.
