Bollywood actor Rakul Preet Singh recently suffered a major injury at the gym and she is currently on bed rest. The injury occurred “after suffering a back spasm during an 80 kg deadlift".
Recently, the actor shared an update with her fans on Instagram, where she revealed the challenges she’s facing and emphasised the importance of listening to your body.
If you also practice deadlifts at your gym, here are a few precautions you should keep in mind.
Proper Form
Make sure to maintain a proper form when doing a deadlift. Keep your back straight, chest up, and core tight throughout the movement. Avoid rounding your spine to prevent injury.
Maintain a Neutral Spine
Keep your back straight, shoulders retracted, and core engaged to avoid stress on your lower back. Never round your spine.
Warm-Up Thoroughly
Properly warm up with dynamic stretches and lighter weight sets to loosen muscles and reduce the risk of injury.
Lift with Legs, Not Back
Engage your glutes and hamstrings as you lift by pushing through your heels. Avoid pulling with your lower back to prevent strain.
Controlled Movements
Perform both the lift and the descent in a slow, controlled manner. Jerky motions increase the likelihood of muscle tears and strains.
