Opposing the centre's decision of banning the export of onion, farmers in Maharashtra's Lasalgaon and Nashik areas protested by crowding the streets on Tuesday. Demanding the government must lift the ban, traders at the Onion market in Lasalgaon also kept their shops closed. The central government on Monday prohibited the export of all varieties of onion with immediate effect to curb rising prises. Meanwhile, NCP President Sharad Pawar has said the ban will disrupt India's export share allowing other countries, such as Pakistan, to displace India. Pawar favours a review of the ban to protect the interests of the farmers.
