As many as 129 people have died in rain-related incidents including landslides in Maharashtra in the last 48 hours, a senior official from the state disaster management department said on Friday evening.

38 of those were reported from Raigad due to landslides. Raigad district collector Nidhi Choudhary said the landslide incident was reported late Thursday evening and NDRF, SDRF and Navy teams were rushed to the spot immediately. Rescue efforts where however impeded by heavy showers, waterlogging, and connectivity issues.

Over 25 deaths due to various rain-related incidents have been reported from Satara as well.

The Maharashtra government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of those who have died in landslides.
