A war of words has broken out after Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday skipped a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to assess the impact of Cyclone Yaas. Instead she interacted with him at an airbase where his flight landed for 15 minutes, before leaving.
The centre has now accused Mamata Banerjee of keeping PM Modi and Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar waiting for half an hour. A photo tweeted by Dhankhar showed the Prime Minister at the head of a table with BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, and other officials seated to his left and empty chairs to his right.
Union ministers have now lashed out at Didi for her behaviour. Home minister Amit Shah said that the chief minister had put her arrogance above public welfare. Shah said Mamata's conduct was an unfortunate low. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also hit out at the Bengal chief minister that the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister are institutions and not people. He said, this is an unfortunate example of political differences above the resolution and constitutional duty of the service.
Meanwhile, reports citing sources close to the West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said she was asked to reach 20 minutes later from the original schedule and later her chopper was moved around for 15 more minutes. She was asked to wait when she reached, as the review meet had started already.
