The Trinamool Congress has decided to field none other than the party chief and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from Nandigram to fill the void left by the exit of former Bengal minister Suvendu Adhikari.

The TMC chief made this announcement while addressing a rally in Nandigram. Mamata said that if possible she will contest from both, Nandigram and Bhawanipore, her current constituency and bastion.

Nandigram is Adhikari's stronghold and he was the sitting MLA from there for TMC till he quit late last year to join BJP and it is likely that saffron party will field from there in coming state elections. The village is also important because the agitation led by Adhikari in Nandigram is what propelled TMC and Mamata to power in 2011.
