West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refused to attend the review meeting on Cyclone Yaas with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, due to the presence of her protégé-turned-rival Suvendu Adhikari, according to reports. PM Modi conducted an aerial survey of cyclone affected areas in Bengal on Friday.

Banerjee skipped the meeting as Suvendu Adhikari, who defeated Mamata from the Nandigram seat in the recently concluded Assembly polls, was invited to attend the review meeting with PM Modi as the Leader of Opposition in the state.

Hitting out at Mamata Banerjee for not attending the review meeting, BJP leader Amit Malviya tweeted, “Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is at her petulant best and will skip the meeting for petty politics”
