Shooting down a study by a pair of researchers from the Cambridge University on cricket bats made out of bamboo, the Marylebone Cricket Club has called the substitution illegal. The guardians of the laws of cricket in a statement said that the bats should be made of wood as per the law and bamboo is actually a kind of grass. The researchers found the bamboo bats to be “stiffer, harder and stronger than those made of willow” and also supposed to have a larger “sweet spot, closer to the toe of the bat.” The MCC meanwhile has also confirmed that they will deliberate about these laws in their next meeting but till then the bats made of bamboo will be considered illegal.
