More than 50 per cent of people have been unable to manage their weight during the Covid-19 lockdown, reveals a survey with 800 UK-based respondents.

The cause of weight gain was attributed to increased snacking and reduced exercise by most people, with many also blaming an uptick in stress and anxiety as well as the inability to access healthier food. More than a quarter also said that they are drinking more alcohol during the lockdown.

The findings come up at a time when the UK government is aggressively pushing its anti-obesity strategy with its 'Better Health' campaign to encourage and support people in leading a healthier lifestyle.

The research was presented at the virtual The European and International Congress on Obesity.
